Carl’s Valley Railroad
The Carl’s Valley Railroad was founded in 1995 by Carl and Judy Holt operating two Lehman powered lines in southestern South Dakota. This G scale operation was founded from a life-long railroad experience dating back to 1947 in Sioux City, Iowa. Carl’s father Archie worked for Sears Roebuck for over 30 years, and the homestead’s basement was filled with Lionel multi-track operations expanding after every Christmas store display. A decade later, expansion to HO scale created the interest in two-rail operations that found Carl and Judy’s home basement filled with HO and N scale lines until the G scale conversion. A move to Arkansas in 1999 found no basement, and operations moved to a large patio in the natural state. In December of 2013, construction of the present elevated layout with storage building started with completion the following year.
