Located on the west side of Fayetteville, AR, the Mount Comfort started when I got an LGB starter set from Tuesday Morning that came with a four foot circle. It did not take very long to tire of watching a little circle that went no where. We had a screened area at the end of the porch that had been used for an above ground pool that the kids had outgrown, so, there was a place.
Piece by piece, new and used, I finally had track for a ten by sixteen oval and I bought building and a few cars for a great price at an outdoor business closeout . A pond and waterfall came next: then a trestle, two more tracks and lots of small plants. This lasted for several years until the huge trees around the layout found the pond a great place for water and almost ate the waterfall! Also, moles decided the the layout was a great place to tunnel and our cat grew fond of the fauna for chewing. I finally convinced the cat that the area was not a litter box with the use of a water gun.
The next project was a 38 foot dog bone layout above ground outside the patio. That was great as I did not have to get on the ground to play with trains. This lasted until the 2009 ice storm with a huge silver maple overhead that deposited large limbs on the layout crushing it. It was covered on my homeowners insurance so I still have hardware to rebuild something out there but the tree is much bigger now than it was then so I keep dragging my feet on getting started.
